Course Planning
How many courses should I take during exchange?
According to our Course Registration, all students are required to enrol in not more than 21 credits and not less than 12 credits in a semester unless prior approval is sought from the Registry. HKSYU’s outbound exchange students are required to maintain their full-time student status while abroad and enrol in not less than 12 HKSYU credits (equivalent to 18 ECTs) in a semester. Please also pay attention to the regulations of the host institution concerning course selection and registration.
Credit transfer
1. How to apply for credit transfer?
Before applying for the Study Abroad Scheme, ensure that your potential host institutions offer courses relevant to your major area of study. Review the full course outlines on their official websites and initiate a preliminary discussion with your departmental coordinator to align your academic goals.
Once you are officially nominated by HKSYU to a host institution, you must:
– Consult your departmental coordinator to select appropriate courses.
– Complete the Credit Transfer Form and request conditional approval from your department.
– Submit detailed course outlines for review. Your academic department will assess the content and determine whether conditional approval can be granted.
Please note: Credit transfer will only be finalized upon successful completion of the courses, supported by an official transcript from your host institution.
2. Can I apply for credit transfer if I am a Year 3 entrance?
Students admitted directly to Year 3 must complete at least 50% of the total number of credits required for the award of the degree at HKSYU. Therefore, they cannot apply for credit transfer if they decide to join the Study Abroad Scheme.
3. Will the grades I receive during my exchange/ study abroad affect my CGPA calculation?
No. Grades for courses completed abroad would not be included in the calculation of CGPA and Honours classification.
4. Can I graduate on time?
Before participating in an exchange or study abroad program, you must consult with your departmental coordinator to understand any department-specific academic requirements.
Please note: If you are unable to complete required core courses or a compulsory placement during your time abroad, you will be required to defer graduation until all outstanding credits in your HKSYU programme are successfully fulfilled.
