For agreement type “exchange”, students pay tuition fees to HKSYU; For agreement type “study abroad”, students will be required to pay tuition fees to HKSYU and the host university; For agreement type “summer school”, the Study Abroad Scheme is not available in those universities.
All students must apply for the Study Abroad Scheme through the Centre for Global Engagement (CGE). CGE will conduct interviews, shortlist candidates, and nominate successful applicants. Offers will be made based on performance and preferences.
Participation in the Study Abroad Scheme is limited to undergraduate students and is permitted only once during their study at Hong Kong Shue Yan University.
Late applicants will not be accepted.


Timeline
For Semester I or whole academic year
For Semester II
Step 1
- Choose preferred countries/ regions
- Study the websites of host institutions (application criteria, major available, application deadlines, etc.)
- Shortlist top three host institutions (note: your 1st option is the most important one)
- Browse available courses, propose study plan and consult department coordinator on credit transfer
- Estimate the expenses for the whole exchange period
- Sit for language proficiency test
- Attend information session organized by CGE in early September/ mid-January
Step 2
- Submit application to CGE
Step 3
- Attend individual or group interview (interviews will be conducted mainly in English. If you apply for exchange in Mainland China or Taiwan, the interview will be conducted in Mandarin)
- CGE will ask shortlisted candidates to sign “Consent Form” and “Written Pledge.” Shortlisted candidates should review their budget plan, academic requirements at the host institution and HKSYU, visa and medical requirements before they sign the documents. Note: it is important to contact departmental coordinator on credit transfer possibilities as early as possible
Step 4
- After receiving the signed documents, CGE will nominate students to their host institutions
- Either CGE or the host institutions will contact the nominees regarding the submission of applications to host institutions
- Nominees should submit applications and supporting documents to the host institutions before the specific deadlines
Step 5
- Host institution will issue Letter of Acceptance or email confirmation to successful applicants
- Attend Pre-departure Briefing held by CGE for knowing more important information regarding the exchange
- Arrange for accommodation, insurance, visa and transportation
Step 6
- Receive admission and course enrollment information from host institutions
- Pay the tuition fees to HKSYU and re-validate student card before departure
- Apply for subsidies/ scholarships
- Inform your academic department and the Registry about your exchange and drop all the courses in HKSYU during the add/ drop period
Step 7
- Submit Credit Transfer Form (Part I & II) to department coordinator when you get the FULL course outlines
- Contact HKSYU if you encounter any problems
- Enjoy the exchange
Step 8
- Prepare for your return in advance
- Complete Part III of the Credit Transfer Form and submit the completed Credit Transfer Form with transcript to CGE
- Provide feedback to CGE
