Student Visa
Once accepted by HKSYU, if you do not have the right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong, you must obtain a student visa from the Hong Kong Immigration Department. You should ensure that you are eligible to apply for a student visa to study in Hong Kong and submit the necessary supporting documents and application form to the Immigration Department. CGE is not responsible for obtaining visas for non-local students but will provide assistance and keep tracking of the visa application progress. It will normally take 6 weeks for the Immigration Department to process a visa application upon receipt of all the required documents. You are advised to apply as early as possible.
Basic materials required by the Immigration Department to facilitate your student visa application:
– Form ID995A (http://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/forms/forms/id995a.html): to be completed and signed by the student
– Form ID995B (http://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/forms/forms/id995b.html) and Letter of Acceptance: to be completed and signed by the sponsor (arranged by CGE)
– Photocopy of the student’s identity card and/or travel documents (e.g. passport)
– One recent passport photo of the student (affixed on Form ID995A)
– Academic transcript in English
– Evidence of the student’s financial standing in English or Chinese (bank statements, passbooks, proof of scholarship funds, etc.) If someone is sponsoring the student financially, that person must submit a declaration stating her/his relationship to the student, her/his intention to support the student’s study and living expenses and her/his financial standing
Visa Label
Once your E-Visa is approved, you will receive a payment guideline. You will need to pay the non-refundable fee of HK$230 to the Immigration Department through the online system as instructed.
When you receive your Notification Slip for Entry Visa/Permit, please save it in soft copy on a mobile device and print a copy to play safe.
When you enter Hong Kong, you should show your Notification Slip for Entry Visa/Permit to the immigration officer to activate your student visa. Otherwise, the officer may grant you a tourist visa and you will not be allowed to study in Hong Kong.
Note: your student visa will allow you to become a student only at HKSYU undertaking courses as may be approved by the Director of Immigration. You shall not take any employment, whether paid or unpaid, or establish or join any business.
Mandatory Health / Medical Insurance
Non-local students are required to have suitable and adequate insurance for the entire period of their study at HKSYU. The insurance should cover, but is not limited to, travel, personal accidents, medical expenses (accident and non-accident), hospitalization and emergency evacuation/ repatriation. If you plan to travel outside Hong Kong during your exchange sojourn, you should make sure that your insurance policy covers those destinations as well.
The insurance should cover your whole exchange period (including travelling days). Exchange students will be required to provide proof of adequate health insurance coverage before their arrival.
