Can I apply if I am a final-year student at the time of departure for study abroad?

You are not recommended to apply for the Study Abroad Scheme in your final year, as there is a high likelihood that you will defer your graduation. Your application will be rejected if it is not approved by your department.

Can I study abroad in the semester right after my final year at HKSYU?

No. Only full-time HKSYU students are eligible for the Study Abroad Scheme. Students can apply to study abroad during Year 4, but not after they have completed Year 4.

What if I withdraw during the application process (e.g. absent from the interview) or reject an offer?

You are highly recommended to consider carefully before applying for the Scheme and being nominated by CGE. If you withdraw after being nominated or admitted, priority will be given to other applicants in your future application.

Can I transfer credits after taking courses at partner universities? What is the procedure?
  • Yes, you may transfer credits to satisfy your graduation requirements at HKSYU, contingent upon receiving prior approval and successfully passing the courses.
  • You must research the course offerings at the host university and align them with your HKSYU curriculum. Additionally, you should propose a study plan and consult your Departmental Coordinator to obtain Conditional Approval, including full course outlines. A Credit Transfer Form will be provided to facilitate procedures.
  • After your exchange, you are required to submit the completed form along with your official transcript to CGE for further processing.

How do I get a subsidy or scholarship to support my study abroad?

What should I prepare before applying?
  • Academic & Language Proficiency
    • CGPA: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
    • IELTS / TOEFL: If applying to institutions outside Mainland China and Taiwan, obtain an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent (must be taken within 2 years of applying).
  • Host University & Destination
    • Research partner institutions and countries you are interested in.
    • Research which partner institutions offer the best courses in your disciplines.
  • Travel Document
    • Ensure your Passport or related travel document is valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended return date.
